Membership

We always welcome new members to the Bath Astronomers. You are invited to come along to our gatherings and either we’ll spot you or just make yourself known.

Individuals can join with one of three types of membership depending on age and study. The couples membership is intended for two adults living at the same postal address and allows you to share your interest more economically. Families can join with two adults and up to three children living at the same postal address. Those under 18 can have the Young Person’s membership; this must be associated with a responsible adult who is a Bath Astronomers member e.g. parent, relative, or guardian.

For experienced observers, dive in and share your fascination. For those starting out, we run a series of workshops to help you get the most out of your observing and cash when it comes to buying equipment. To participate beyond public outreach observing, we ask you join Bath Astronomers. It allows us to cover the small costs running the group incurs and if there is a surplus, to invest in the next year’s plans.

Membership entitles you to:

  1. Attend 9+ talks per year for no charge on the subjects on space, astronomy both theoretical and practical, and history thereof,
  2. Free entry to the Herschel Museum of Astronomy all year round (excluding annual closure in January),
  3. Access to Loan Equipment so that members can try practical astronomy before they buy their own equipment,
  4. Contributing to the schools and public outreach work done either in spirit (and funding via membership fee) or actively participaton,
  5. Practical observing sessions organised twice a month, and
  6. Being part of a community that share your interest in the night and daytime sky and the wonders beyond.
