Bath Astronomers (BA) is a local independent charity whose volunteers provide outreach experiences to schools, young peoples’ organisations, and community groups using the context of space and astronomy to engage, inspire and challenge minds in science. BA relies on donations and bequests as well as its membership to fund its education initiatives, and wider programmes.

For over a decade, your contributions have enabled many thousands of people to experience the beauty and the wonder of the night sky and explore the science behind it. You can support BA by becoming a member, through one-off or regular financial donations, equipment donations, or by leaving a gift in your will.

Please remember us in your will. In a world where we all spend more time looking at screens and down at our feet as we navigate the complexities of modern living, it is so important that we give people, young, middle-aged, and worldly-wise, the opportunity to look up and see their lives in the context of a bigger, wider universe. Bath Astronomers’ work reaches the places others cannot. A sense of wonder. A realisation of the uniqueness of our world, our environment. How precious all around us is. Its beauty and how it can inspire us to be better.

Visiting schools, young peoples’ organisations and local communities, we simply provide the opportunities to look at our extraordinary universe beyond the clouds, beyond the day-to-day stress. Some gain a curiousity about science, before other influences in life are able to turn them off, and study science to higher levels or even embark on science-based careers. Others simply have their horizons expanded.
Whether its creating materials, lessons, and science experiment demonstrations or delivering them alongside real astronomical experiences such as gazing at the stars, sun, moon and planets, donations make it possible and we’re very grateful for any contribution that you are able to make through a legacy.
As Bath Astronomers is a charity, bequests left to us are exempt from Inheritance Tax. In addition, a legacy of 10% or more of your net estate to charities will reduce the rate of Inheritance Tax payable on the rest of your estate from 40% to 36%. To find out more about this benefit, please speak to your solicitor.
If you decide to include Bath Astronomers in your Will, please let us know an instruction exists so we have the opportunity to thank you for your support.
If you would like further details or a confidential discussion regarding leaving a bequest to Bath Astronomers, please contact us online or in writing to Bath Astronomers, 19 New King Street, Bath, BA1 2BL.

Donating Equipment
Bath Astronomers (BA) have benefitted significantly from equipment donations, whether telescopes, scientific equipment, or planetariums. We welcome these donations to enrich our outreach stargazing equipment, to take into schools, or to sell to fund outreach projects.
Due to storage limitations and resources to maintain and repair equipment, we are unable to accept smaller hobbyist binoculars and telescopes. As a guide, telescopes with an aperture (diameter of tube) of 150mm/6″ and beyond are normally suitable for donation if in working order. If in doubt, just let us know what you’ve got and perhaps send a photo.
Simply contact us to let us know what item(s) you wish to donate (make, model, condition, location), and we’ll let you know how we can proceed.
