This Celestron C8 Schmidt Cassegrain Telescope is called “Chandra”.
The scope is an all rounder but due to the steps required to set up, is intended for those with a little experience, a bit of room, and a those willing to do a little lifting. The 200mm aperture standard Celestron C8 is f/10 and was originally mounted on a fork mount for manual object finding. It has subsequently been removed from the forks, a dovetail added, and it now sits upon a Celestron AVX goto mount.
The view finder is a traditional refracting telescope finder with a right angled eyepiece.
The mount is powered by 12V DC and this can be provided by a rechargeable lead acid battery power tank, a mains adapter (not supplied) or a car battery (not supplied). A 7Ah Celestron Powertank and its charger are supplied with the loan. It is important not to leave the Powertank significantly discharged for any period of time. Use the recharge.
The telescope is fully controlled by the Nexstar Handset connected to the mount. It is supplied with a 25mm and a 10mm Super Plossl eyepieces.
The telescope is named after Nobel Prize winning astrophysicist Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar.
