Join astronomer and aurora chaser Wil as he shares his experiences chasing and photographing one of nature’s most spectacular phenomena — the Northern Lights.

Having witnessed the aurora over 420 times across the Arctic, Wil will take you behind the scenes of what it really takes to successfully see and photograph the aurora. From understanding solar activity and forecasting, to choosing the right locations, camera settings, and equipment, this talk combines practical advice with stunning imagery and real-world experiences.

Wil will also share stories from his adventures including tours to Norway and Iceland along with insights into how anyone can improve their chances of witnessing the aurora.

Whether you’re interested in astronomy, photography, or simply the beauty of the night sky, this talk offers both inspiration and practical guidance.

About Wil

Wil is an astronomer, photographer, and aurora chaser who has witnessed the Northern Lights over 420 times since first experiencing them in Iceland in 2015.

He runs one of the UK’s largest aurora alert communities, helping tens of thousands of people experience the Northern Lights through forecasts, tours, and educational outreach. Wil regularly leads aurora expeditions to Norway, Iceland, and other Arctic locations.

Wil has delivered talks at major venues including the National Space Centre, Centre for Life, and observatories across the UK. He has also appeared on BBC One’s The One Show, ITV News, and international television, and was recently featured in BBC Travel as part of their The Specialist series. He has hosted stargazing events within the dark sky park of Northumberland for over 12 years, showing tens of thousands of guests the night sky.

In addition to land-based tours, Wil has hosted and chartered astronomy cruise expeditions, including a full-ship aurora charter with over 1,000 guests.

Through his talks, photography, and outreach, Wil aims to inspire more people to look up and experience the night sky.
